Celebrating 70 Years of Archer Village & Care Homes
A Journey of Compassion and Community
This year, 2025, marks a significant milestone for Archer Village & Care Homes as we celebrate the 70th anniversary of our beloved Archer Beckenham. It was on September 17th, 1955, that Archer Beckenham first opened its doors, setting the foundation for a legacy of care and compassion that has spanned seven decades.
A Grand Opening and Visionary Beginnings
The opening day of Archer Beckenham was a momentous occasion, attended by notable figures such as the Christchurch mayoress, Mrs. Macfarlane, the member of parliament for Sydenham, Mabel Howard, Dr. Knights, the Deputy Medical Officer of Health, Rev. Lanyon, the General Secretary of the Baptist Union, and Rev. and Mrs. Archer, whose home became the site of the Archer Memorial Home. A large crowd gathered to celebrate the beginning of what would become a cornerstone of elder care in our community.
The vision that inspired the creation of Archer Beckenham was rooted in generosity and a deep commitment to providing a nurturing home for the elderly. This spirit of dedication has been carried forward by countless supporters, workers, and staff who have contributed to the thriving community we are today.
